Deep Time Walk

December 1, 2024 - 8:15 am to 1:00 pm

Walk through a 4.6 billion-year of Earth history through a 4.6km guided walk

Each step = 500,000 years. 1 metre = 1 million years.

As we confront the reality of a potential 6th mass extinction, we aspire for this deep time walk to embolden our relationship to the earth, and allow Gaia to help us navigate our future.

A Deep Ecology approach, known as “head – body – heart”

  • Head: Scientific contributions on the evolution of living things
  • Body: Nature walks the body in movement anchors memory and the experience
  • Heart: moments of deep questioning in pairs, groups and individuals

Stimulating a paradigm shift

Moving from extraction/domination/short-term thinking to regeneration/cooperation/long-term view:

  • Emphasis is on facilitating interactions: with the other participants in the group, with experience, with the living.
  • Encourage awareness, introspection, active listening and alternative exchanges.
  • Stimulate broad changes and new approaches to address the climate emergency.

Why experience the Deep Time Walk?

  • Feeling the immensity of the time it took for life to evolve
  • Perceive the interconnectedness of all life on Earth. A time-space that links the history of life with the current climate challenges facing our society
  • An opportunity to learn, recharge and reconnect.
  • Exploring the climate crisis through a collective walking experience that leads participants into a connection with the more-than human world.

Feedback:

“Deep Time Walk is an awesome experience which enabled me to really appreciate the amazing power of life in all its forms.

Walking through the landscape and reflecting on the history of our planet with the many hurdles life has already overcome amazes and inspires me.

I have not found any other activity that enables such a felt experience of how short a period of time the human experiment has been running and how important is it to take positive actions to change our trajectory towards a regenerative future”

Mutual Aid Fundraiser for Tayuksidi Collective

Tayuksidi Collective is a network of cultural wisdom bearers and advocates supporting Native Healers & Ritualists (Babaylan, Tambalan, Manghihilot, Albularyo) in the Philippines.

Its goal is to help rebuild and sustain ritual community houses, as spaces for storytelling, knowledge sharing and community gathering led by native/local healers.

In this time of climate emergency and modernisation, we wish to inspire local communities and youth to protect our sacred environment. A renewed community house will be a significant space for these conversations.
