Mirror Neuron’s: How do observations spark our internal responses?

The science of mirror neuron’s helps us to understand how our observations shape our internal responses.

Mirror neurons are unique brain cells that activate when we witness actions, emotions, or sensations in others, including digitally, on television and of course most impactful is often in person. This activation creates responses within our own bodies, influencing our emotions and state of mind.

These neurons are crucial in building empathy and connection, enabling us to resonate with people and our environment, thus enhancing our sense of belonging.

However, past negative experiences can manifest as tension, pain, or anxiety, lingering within our bodies. By engaging in perceived safe connections, we can rewire these ingrained patterns, facilitating the release of old tensions and promoting a sense of renewal.

Why is this significant?

By understanding our body’s responses, we transition from being reactive to becoming responsive.

Mirror neurons offer a pathway to growth by aiding us in unlearning past patterns and embracing new, healthier ones.

Body awareness as a tool for changing patterns

Body awareness techniques, such as somatic therapy, embodiment, yoga, tai chi, and other body-mind strengthening practices; can positively influence mirror neurons, leading to improved empathy and emotional regulation.

These practices encourage a deep connection between the mind and body, fostering a heightened sense of self-awareness and presence.

  • Increased Sensory Awareness: By focusing on physical sensations during practice, sensory awareness amplifies. This heightened awareness can activate mirror neurons effectively, allowing for improved attuning to others’ and oneself.
  • Stress Reduction: These techniques invite relief, which can down regulate the heightened arousal often associated with negative emotional patterns. As stress decreases, mirror neurons function more optimally, supporting a more balanced emotional response.
  • Improved Emotional Processing: Engaging in body awareness practices helps individuals process and release stored emotions in the body. This can lead to healthier neural pathways, where mirror neurons contribute to more positive and empathetic interactions.
  • Mind-Body Synchronisation: By harmonising the mind and body, these techniques help in creating a cohesive internal environment. This synchronisation allows mirror neurons to operate in a more integrated manner, encouraging emotional intelligence and social connection.

Biodynamic Somatic Therapy in Singapore

Feb 1 - Mar 1, 2025

Biodynamic Somatic Therapy is a method of gently realigning the body’s dynamics to release tension, restore balance, and support holistic healing from chronic pain, stress, and emotional volatility.

Biodynamic Somatic Therapy (BST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that works with the body’s natural rhythms to reorganise from misaligned or overworked states into more fluid, available, and spacious states of internal harmony.

Rooted in Craniosacral dynamics, BST focuses on the spine—the core of the central nervous system—helping to address chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia, and the lingering effects of trauma.
